Phil Posthuma - The Betrayal

Mar 15, 2026    Phil Posthuma

Have you ever felt "prone to wander"? This Sunday, we continue our journey through the final hours of Jesus’ life with a powerful message titled "The Betrayal." We’ll explore the stark contrast between two types of "sorrow": the regret that leads to despair, and the repentance that leads to life. By looking at the story of Judas and the famous lyrics of Robert Robinson’s Come Thou Fount, we’ll see that while we are often prone to wander, Jesus is always prone to forgive.

Read Mark 14:43-72.

Sermon Discussion Questions

1. How have you denied or betrayed Jesus in your heart or actions? Have you repented, or only felt guilt and shame?

2. Read 1 John chapters 1 and 2. What confidence can we have that God will forgive us when we truly repent?

3. Spend some time reflecting over these chapters in 1 John and examining your heart. A great way to continue to do this is to pray the examen every night before bed (you can access this in the Group Resources section of the app). Ask God to show you the times you denied Him or forgot to acknowledge and submit to Him throughout your day. Seek His forgiveness and grace to walk in step with Him from this day forward.
