Day 29 | The Comfort of Our Shepherd – Alex

Jul 16, 2026    Alexander Kes

There’s a noticeable shift in Psalm 23:4. Up until this point, King David has described green pastures, quiet waters, and the right paths. But now the scenery changes. The Good Shepherd is now leading him through the darkest valley. A place marked by fear, pain, and vulnerability.

What’s striking is that David doesn’t say if he walks through the darkest valley. He says, “even though.”

Sometimes God comforts us by protecting us from things we can see. Other times He comforts us by guiding us through things we would never choose ourselves. Either way, the Shepherd remains ever-near. Psalm 23:4 reminds us that God’s presence is greater than our fear. Valleys may feel dark, but they are never empty. The Shepherd walks there too. So if you find yourself in a difficult season today, remember this: the valley is not proof that God has left you. Often, it is the very place where His presence becomes most real.

REFLECT

1.What “valley” are you currently walking through in this season of life?

2.How does knowing God is with you change the way you view your circumstances?

3.Do you tend to focus more on the presence of the valley or the presence of the Shepherd? Why?

4.In what ways have you experienced God’s comfort, guidance, or protection during difficult seasons in the past?

PRAYER

LORD, thank You for being near even in the darkest valleys of my life. When fear, uncertainty, and pain surround me, remind me that I’m never abandoned. Help me trust Your presence more than my circumstances. Thank You for guiding me with Your Holy Spirit and Your care. Give me the peace to keep walking forward, knowing that You are leading us every step of the way. Teach me to rest in Your comfort and to remember that valleys are not my final destination. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.

TAKE ACTION TODAY

Take five minutes today to honestly name the “valley” you are currently walking through. Write it down and then write this truth beside it, “The LORD is with me even here.” Spend time praying specifically about that situation, asking God to help you trust His presence in the middle of it rather than waiting for the situation to change first.
